Pride at Skipton

People waving Pride flag

At Skipton we encourage a diverse and inclusive culture, it's a really important part of who we are. Our Society is a place for everyone – no matter your sexual orientation, your gender or your heritage.

Inclusivity is vital in attracting and maintaining a workforce who feel accepted for who they are and valued for the contribution they bring. Joining the LGBTQ+ community to celebrate Pride enables colleagues, allies and communities to come together and have fun while highlighting the importance of acceptance and belonging. In preparation for Pride 2022, we’ve been engaging colleagues across the Society for their thoughts, ideas and experiences, so that we can share them with you.

Pride in our communities

Look out for Pride’s rainbow colours in our branch windows and on our website in June as we celebrate Pride month. Over the summer, many of our colleagues will take part in organised events - walking with the parade in Leeds and supporting Manchester Pride amongst other activities. A great way to show togetherness with our local communities and enjoy a colourful day out with family and friends.

We’re also delighted that our hometown of Skipton is hosting its own Pride event for the first time. Our colleagues will be out in force, helping on the day and showing what it means to be part of our Society. And we’ve pledged our financial support as well, to help make the day as successful as it can be.

Pride is an important opportunity to celebrate everyone individually whilst all being together in one space, having the most fun. Turning up, showing your face and supporting the love and joy our community can bring is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face.

The Pride Alliance

The Pride Alliance is a safe space for Skipton colleagues where members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies can support each other and discuss the issues that matter to them. It's open to all colleagues – from our branches and in our head office – and it helps to bring people together so that no one feels alone.

For me Pride is about being proud of who you are and being entitled to be accepted unconditionally, and I think it’s for everyone to feel that way, not just the LGBTQ+ community.

Proud to be me

Don’t miss our ‘Proud to be me’ series on our social media channels in 2022. Through videos, social media posts and blogs, we're telling the stories of Skipton colleagues who discuss why being part of a diverse and inclusive community is important to them.

Alison Davies

Pride is important to me because it allows me to be the real me, without fear of judgment or persecution. I’m not ‘weird’ or ‘confused’ or ‘jumping on a bandwagon’, I’m me.
