Equality and our gender pay gap

We strive for a culture which is diverse, inclusive and representative of the world in which we live. We believe this will benefit our customers, our people and our business performance, further enabling us to Build a Better Society.

This year, organisations with over 250 staff have to report on their gender pay gap. The gender pay gap is the percentage difference between the average earnings of women and men - it’s not the same as equal pay.

Our results

Whilst we employ more women than men at Skipton, our gender pay gap is 30%, primarily because of the gender distribution of our workforce with twice as many men than women in senior roles. We believe in developing talent and being transparent so that we can work to address any issues and ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, race, ethnicity or gender, has an equal opportunity to succeed.

We would like to see a more even gender balance at senior levels of the Society, so we’re introducing a number of key initiatives to help us achieve this, like improving the return-to-work experience and removing all barriers to progression for women, giving equal access to all careers. We’re also improving our flexible working policies and aiming to recruit a diverse range of colleagues who understand the needs of the customers we serve.
