Our people

It’s hard to imagine what Samuel Farey and George Kendall would think about Skipton today compared to when they founded it in 1853.

From small beginnings, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s largest building societies and now, over 2,300 people work at our head office in Skipton and throughout our network of UK branches.

Our culture and values

Our culture’s evolved into one that’s uniquely Skipton thanks to the enthusiasm and individuality of our colleagues and their commitment to our values, which are Trust, Ownership and One Team. Our colleagues are proud to work for Skipton - we’re on the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to work for list and we’re one of only two percent of accredited organisations in the UK to achieve Investors in People platinum status.

Diversity and Inclusion

Encouraging a diverse and inclusive culture is a really important part of our core values. We appreciate the value our colleagues’ unique differences can bring. We seek to attract, develop and keep hold of talented people who, together, will help us build a stronger Society that’s able to help our customers today and in the future.

I really enjoy my role because no two appointments are the same. I love getting to know our customers, hearing about their families, holidays, aspirations and dreams. It’s so rewarding when we can help them. Skipton is a wonderful place to work and there’s great scope for progression.

Reward and recognition

Our reward practices help us attract and retain talented people, while rewarding people fairly for their contribution and promoting a positive and inclusive culture. Our people do great work both within the Society and out in our communities. We’ve won numerous awards in recognition of these achievements and, in turn, we like to recognise those colleagues who have gone the extra mile.
