Fraudsters are getting smarter, that's why in our new app, we check your identity.

These checks help to keep your accounts safe from fraud. We ask for this information because:

  • it helps ensure only you can access your accounts.
  • it prevents identity fraud.
  • it protects your personal and financial information.
  • it meets UK banking security and identity standards.

What we’ll ask you to do:

Take a picture of your photo ID

This is so we can make sure it’s you and check that your selfie matches your ID. You will only need 1 of the following photo ID:

  • a Full or Provisional Driving Licence
  • a UK or Foreign Passport
  • a Residence Permit
  • a Foreign National Identity Card.

We partner with Onfido, an Entrust company, to check your identity

Onfido is a trusted partner for many financial institutions. The service operates in compliance with UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). They use strong security practices including data encryption, and only collect data required for verification.

When submitting a selfie for verification, there are several requirements that must be met:

  • The photo must be taken in a well-lit area.
  • Your face must be fully visible and centred in the frame. This means that:
    • You should remove any accessories, such as hats or glasses, that could obscure your face.
    • You shouldn't be wearing any face masks or face coverings that cover your nose and mouth.
    • You shouldn't be wearing heavy makeup or face paint that could alter your appearance.
  • You should keep a neutral expression (e.g. avoid smiling, frowning, or making any other facial expressions).
  • You should hold still for a few seconds to ensure that the image is clear and in focus.

Onfido will retain information about you for a period following the checks to enable further checks that support the prevention and detection of financial crime.
