Fake sales

There exist scams whereby fraudsters sell fake products like miracle cures and masks. Learn more about these scams here, and what to do if you're a victim.

Online shopping increased during the pandemic and so did the rise in shopping sites selling fake virus testing kits, miracle cures, masks and anti-bacterial products. 

How to protect yourself

People or companies offering Covid-related products might not be genuine businesses. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

What to do

Don't hand over money, bank details or personal information to any company you're not 100% sure about. You can also report fake government messages to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at actionfraud.police.uk

 

If you think you've been scammed

Stop payments

Contact your bank or building society so they can try to stop the payment.

Call us on 0345 850 0469, send a message on web chat, or email reportscam@skipton.co.uk.

Report it

Phone the Police Action Fraud line on 0300 123 2040. They'll give you a reference number.

To help prevent further scams, report it to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) by phoning their helpline on 0800 111 6768.
