The key principles of the Covenant
- The Armed Forces Covenant is a promise from the nation that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.
- In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate, especially for the injured or bereaved.
Forces Help to Buy Scheme
The Forces Help to Buy scheme enables Regular Serving Personnel to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary (up to a maximum of £25,000) which is then used as a deposit (or to help with associated costs) when buying a property. The advance is interest free, repayable over a maximum of ten years and is open to most regular personnel with more than 12 months’ service. For more information on who can use this scheme, please visit the government's Forces Help to Buy page.
For mortgage customers who are active members of the armed forces, if you are unable to live in your property, we may be able to give consent to you letting it out without increasing your interest rate. For full eligibility or to apply please download our Property Letting Requirements form.
Types of income we accept
As part of an application for any of our mortgage products, we accept income from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme, including Armed Forces Independence Payment and Survivors' Guaranteed Income Payment.
