22 August 2016 by Roy Prenton

We’ve donated hundreds of pounds to the York Flood Disaster Fund, following last year’s flooding.

A building society’s campaign to continue helping those impacted by the horrendous flooding at the end of last year has resulted in hundreds of pounds being handed over to York Flood Disaster Fund.

Skipton Building Society pledged their help to those affected by some of the worst flooding in recent history and launched its Change for Wellies campaign where customers could buy green wellington boot key rings. The society also pledged to match what was raised from the sale of the key rings.

Altogether a total of £6,000 was raised by the campaign and now £488.53 from the fund has been donated to York Flood Disaster Fund.

Mark Banyard, manager at Skipton’s York branch, said: “Many parts of the city were absolutely devastated in the December floods and we are pleased to make this donation which will be used to help those who are still affected.”

Jan Garrell, a representative of York Flood Disaster Fund, said: “This generous donation will help households who continue to be affected by the terrible floods in the city. We are very grateful to Skipton Building Society for this.”
