What is the Skipton Funeral Plan?

Knowing you have planned ahead for when you’re no longer here could provide comfort and reassurance for you and your family. A funeral plan from Skipton is a straightforward way to make your funeral wishes known and to pay towards the cost of your funeral in advance. With a Skipton Funeral Plan the cost of the guaranteed services are fixed at today’s prices, no matter what may happen in the future.

A Skipton Funeral Plan is available to anyone aged 50 or over and you are guaranteed to be accepted. Our plans are provided by Dignity - a major provider of funeral related services, owning a nationwide network of approved funeral directors and crematoria across the UK.

A Skipton Funeral plan gives you the flexibility to tailor-make your plan. You start with a Base Plan and then have the option to add extra elements to make it truly personal. You can tailor-make a funeral plan when you buy it over the phone or in branch. Alternatively, you may want to choose the pre-packaged Classic Plan, available to buy over the phone, in branch or online.

What is included in our plans

All our funeral plans start with the Base Plan, you then have the option to add extras or tailorable options to your plan, when you buy in branch or over the phone. Alternatively you can choose our already pre-packaged Classic Plan.

¥ Some requests may incur an additional charge and may not be covered by the price guarantee. Any costs incurred from these requests will have to be paid for at the time of the funeral, or alternatively, a contribution can be made towards these costs that will increase each year in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI).

A Classic Plan costs £3,850 or £320.83 per month spread over 12 months at no extra cost. Payment terms of longer than 12 months are also available and will incur an additional fee.^

Tailor your Plan

Choose just the Base Plan or add any of the following options for an additional cost to create a tailored plan.

  • Limousine(s) for your family. Add up to a maximum of six.
  • Choose a funeral procession route prior to arrival at the crematorium or place of burial.
  • Upgrade your coffin to a high quality wood veneer, cardboard, willow or solid wood coffin.
  • Add an urn in wood effect, willow or solid wood.

Tailored Plans start from £3,495 or £291.25 per month spread over 12 months at no extra cost. Payment terms of longer than 12 months are also available and will incur an additional fee.^

Payment terms of up to 10 years are available and there is an extra charge if you spread the cost over more than 12 months. Prices valid at 16/12/2021. Prices subject to review by Dignity Funerals. If at the point of application, the Plan price has changed for any reason, Dignity Funerals will advise you of this before setting up your plan and there will be no obligation for you to continue. Alternative fixed instalment periods are available, provided that all payments over any instalment term longer than 12 months are completed by the 85th birthday of the eldest person named on the plan, and the instalment term does not exceed the maximum term available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Taking out the Skipton Funeral Plan allows you to make important decisions about what you and your family want from your funeral. It will also help save your loved ones the worry and stress of making all the funeral arrangements at such an emotional time, because they will already know your wishes. One call to Dignity is all it takes to put your plan into action and a trusted Dignity nominated funeral director will then be on hand to guide and support them every step of the way.

Paying for your plan is straightforward. If you choose to pay in a single lump sum then you can pay by cheque, credit or debit card. Alternatively you can choose to make the payments more manageable by paying in monthly instalments of up to 10 years. Instalment payments must be paid by Direct Debit. If the cost is spread over more than 12 months there will be an instalment charge and payments must be completed by the 85th birthday of the eldest person named on the plan. If you choose to pay in instalments over more than 12 months, you will qualify for the Skipton Commitment.

No matter what happens to Dignity, your funeral arrangements are protected, because the money you’ve paid is securely managed in the totally independent National Funeral Trust, which no one at Dignity has access to. The managing trustees of the Trust would work with the remaining nominated funeral directors, with the aim of continuing to provide services to plan holders where possible. If your funeral director were to go out of business, Dignity would nominate another approved funeral director to continue to provide services to planholders.

Yes, you can choose to add money to your plan to pay for extras including the wake, and this will increase with Inflation.

Anyone aged 50 or over can take out the Skipton Funeral Plan. You’re guaranteed to be accepted and there are no upper age limits and no health or medical questions to answer.

Once you’ve bought your Skipton Funeral Plan you have 90 days to cancel your plan and receive a full refund, from the date you receive your Planholder pack. If you choose to cancel after 90 days, there’s a cancellation fee of £195, which will be deducted from your refund.

When Dignity set up your funeral plan, they will send you a Planholder Pack, which will tell you everything you need to know, including important information for the person who’ll be responsible for setting your funeral in motion.

Dignity will choose a trusted funeral director, who will offer support and guidance to whoever is organising the funeral. There is 24 hour, 365 days a year support from a UK-based client service centre, who will answer any questions you may have about the funeral plan. Your loved ones will also have access to a free telephone bereavement support service providing help and advice at a difficult time.

Yes, but the costs of a burial funeral can’t be guaranteed in the same way as a cremation funeral. Your funeral director will arrange certain services which are provided by third parties and the cost of these services can vary widely across the country. We can’t guarantee that your funeral plan will cover these costs, such as the burial plot. However, a fixed contribution of £1,220 (rising with RPI inflation) will be made towards burial fees and any services provided by these third parties. The funeral director’s services for arranging and conducting the funeral are covered in full, by the plan for a burial.

As long as the funeral is conducted in mainland Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Jersey, the Isle of Man or the Isle of Wight, the cost of the guaranteed services in the plan will be covered. A fixed UK address will need to be provided to Dignity for them to allocate a nominated funeral director. If you live abroad, Dignity will assume you have family in the UK, and if your intention is to have your funeral here, you should provide the address of a relative. The plan does not cover the cost of repatriation from outside of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Jersey, the Isle of Man or the Isle of Wight.
