Whether it’s bathing in a tub of mushy peas in aid of Comic Relief or collecting donations for international emergencies, Skipton, its staff AND its customers can always be relied upon to raise large amounts of money for good causes.
Branches will always take part in national fundraising events such as Children In Need, Comic Relief and Sports Relief
with activities ranging from sponsored cycles to TV themed events. Skipton also support annual events such as the Macmillan Coffee Mornings and
Wear it Pink.
For a number of years, female Society staff have participated in the annual Race For Life events that are held all over the country.
"We are lucky that our staff have such a positive attitude when it comes to big events like these and try to do all they can. We regularly hold events in branches on these special days and this allows our customers to join in the fun and make donations. It’s a real team effort."
Cara Taylor, Skipton Sponsorship Consultant
In times of international crisis, the Society tries to help with the aid of our members. Working in conjunction with Y Care International special emergency appeal accounts are set up that allow customers to make donations, big or small, to help the relief efforts.
Proactively, we also support the NSPCC and since 1997 our members have helped us to raise over £1.2 million. This has been raised by our ISA customers who forgo 0.5% of their annual interest to support the children’s charity.
Mary Marsh, Director & Chief Executive at NSPCC, said, "Raising a million pounds for charity is never easy. Skipton Building Society has been hugely creative in developing ways to deliver this marvellous amount and we are extremely grateful for their magnificent contribution. These funds will enable us to carry out our work on behalf of many thousands of vulnerable children in the UK."
John Goodfellow, Chief Executive at Skipton, added, "The work of the NSPCC is close to the hearts of many people in Britain. We are delighted at the generosity of Skipton’s investors, who have generated well over a million pounds in only nine years."
