Logo: Young Finance ManagerThe Society has committed to maintaining and developing the popular Young Finance Manager educational computer game originally developed by Scarborough Building Society.

The financial education resource – now in use at more than 300 schools nationwide - aims to equip members of the next generation with the information required to manage their finances effectively for a more stable future.

  • What does VAT stand for?
  • What's the National Minimum Wage?
  • What does gross pay mean?

If you think you know the answers to the questions above, you might want to have a go at the game, which is quality marked by national educational charity PFEG, and see if you are right.

PFEG - recommended teaching resourceIn response to the Government’s increasing push to prepare the next generation to manage their finances responsibly, Scarborough created the game, and supporting materials, to assist teachers in providing effective support to students.

The game uses terms and situations which occur in real life, giving today’s teenagers an early insight into the opportunities and pitfalls of personal financial management.

Please note that, due to recent economic changes, such as the reduction in VAT, and the imminent 2009 budget, the Young Finance Manager game is undergoing an update which will be available shortly.

The new data has incorporated all the new tax and National Insurance bands for the current year, which changes all the characters’ budgets. We also increased the cost of some of the shopping items, to make the game as realistic as possible. In addition, we have taken onboard feedback regarding some of the statistical data questions, which have been updated to make them more current and relevant to today’s market.

You will also need the new data file if you are downloading Young Finance Manager for the first time, to ensure that you have the current version installed.

Once the installation has been completed, you should download the latest data file containing new questions and updates for the financial year by clicking the link below.

Please note: The file will need to be unzipped prior to installation. To install the new data file, you should save the file 'YOUNGFINANCEMANAGER.DAT' to the directory the program has been installed to. The default directory is 'C:\Program Files\Young Finance Manager\'.

You are likely to be asked if you wish to overwrite the file 'YOUNGFINANCEMANAGER.DAT', and should click Yes to proceed with the update. Once this has been done, you should start the game as normal and the new data for financial year 08/09 will be included.
