What is the Great Yorkshire Show?
The Great Yorkshire Show is England’s premier agricultural event which takes place in July every year, attracting around 135,000 people over the three day event.
But there’s so much more than farming that takes place at the Great Yorkshire Show. Being a Yorkshire-born-and-bred business, Skipton has been delighted to sponsor the Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion for nearly a decade. In 2014, for the second year in a row, Skipton occupied a second building at the Great Yorkshire Show for visitors to pop in and say hello to us, where we gave away goody bags and showcased our range of typewriters.
Inside our Branch...
In 2014 we welcomed visitors to the show into our informal and relaxed Skipton Branch, and we spoke to hundreds of people about our Retirement services, along with our other products and services, over the three day period.
We brought with us our range of fully working vintage typewriters that feature in our Retirement campaign materials, and these provided a fantastic opportunity for our visitors to think about their life ahead, and type out a little bit about what retirement means to them. It was great to hear so many people reminiscing about learning to type on one of the retro machines and sharing their experiences and aspirations with us.
Here's a few snippets of what our visitors told us about how they see their Retirement:
We had a full team of branch staff who were able to answer the many questions visitors had about our products and services, and spent lots of time explaining how we could help meet the financial and retirement needs they had. We ran a free prize draw, offered tea and coffee, and a relaxed atmosphere which mirrored our No Pressure Promise, and we loved hearing from everyone we spoke to.
At the Fashion Pavilion...
The Skipton Building Society Fashion Pavilion has built up a reputation for showcasing collections by the best of the region’s fashion designers, alongside those of Yorkshire’s up-and-coming design talent. Inside our Fashion Pavilion, and alongside the catwalks, the collections and the choreography, we give out more of our goody bags and make sure you enjoy the show!
In 2014 we hosted four 45 minute long fashion shows a day, featuring top of the range High Street brands such as Hobbs, Barbour and Brook Taverner menswear. We also took our free prize draw across for spectators of the fashion show to enter, and received lots of entries from the hundreds of people who attended each show.
